OPTIMIZING PICK AND SHIP

For many manufacturers, fullfillment of orders consists of a Pick and Ship function where orders usually have a rapid beginning-to-end cycle. This type of order fulfillment requires the selection of the right quantities of the correct inventory that is readily available to pickers who move the ordered product from storage to packing with accurate ship-to information. In addition, product specifications and other information may need to be included in the shipped package.

It is important to note that Pick and Ship orders are uniquely different from standard production orders in several ways. They have a short time cycle from order received to order shipped; usually a few hours. They also depend on accurate inventory records and information needed to complete the shipped package. The time it takes to gather product data, inventory locations, quantities needed, and ship-to instructions can be lengthy without a dedicated solution to optimize this process.

Quantum now includes a simplified Production Order Scheduler to manage daily Pick and Ship orders. Quantum inventory records are complete and accurate when the order is initiated. Its Scheduler integrates current inventory information with the order BOM to enable the pickers to instantly know where the product is and how much is available. Any informational material needed can be printed in shipping along with the shipping labels to arrive before the picker arrives with the product quantity.

Quantum's simplified Production Order Scheduler can manage this process and go from order to ready-to-pack for shipment in seconds. It can also inform the operator that the quantity is not fully available and prepare a partial ship or a hold for additional inventory.

This feature has been added to Quantum along with other standard scheduling and order management capabilities to enable you to control production ordering in parallel with an optimized Pick and Ship capability.

Quantum adds value to existing shops that wish to begin a Build to Stock capability for some products along with standard order production on other products.
