This issue is focused on

PRODUCTION SCHEDULING

Scheduling is a key function in all manufacturing and your effectiveness in managing schedules is directly related to your profitability each month. You can positively affect your cash flow by increasing the accuracy of adjustments to your daily and weekly schedules, and this can be done with even greater skill when you have complete knowledge of the resources available to you.

Did you know that Quantum manages all activities across the production floor and collects accurate data on resources such as people, machine availability, inventory, time on production activities, quality metrics and failures, and more? With this data, Quantum populates several internal Scheduling tools.

  • Production scheduling is the arranging, controlling, and optimizing of open work throughout the production process. Quantum allows you to view your schedule by work center to manage specific detailed work and by order to manage the completion of work and ship times.
  • Resource scheduling matches people with machines or specific processes daily to maintain promised ship dates. It also matches tooling and inventory needed to avoid production delays. Quantum contains accurate tooling, inventory, work center loading, and daily work assignments to allow accurate resource scheduling that paper processes just cannot do.
  • Capacity planning refers to the management of the maximum amount of work an organization is capable of doing in a given time period. To effectively manage capacity planning there must be a method such as simulating various options, assignments or doubling up at work centers to see the best plan to optimize results. Quantum has such a simulation tool inside its Scheduling Calendar.

In some cases, a company requires a Daily Schedule to build to stock or to pick and ship orders. A special abbreviated scheduler focused on daily assignments is available in Quantum to simply create a daily schedule with available resources. In a short time at the start of a shift, a schedule can be created to achieve optimized capacity utilization.
