the MES advantage

In 1996, CIMx Software was born from a vision of revolutionizing manufacturing technology. Our founder, Anthony Cuilwik, saw a critical need to modernize the outdated production planning systems plaguing manufacturers. Recognizing the failures and limitations of existing systems, Cuilwik and a team of five embarked on a mission to completely revamp the technology they saw becoming obsolete, and their commitment to progress laid the groundwork for the innovative solutions that would become our hallmark at CIMx.

Our first innovation, MultiCAPP (Multifunctional Computer Aided Process Planning), directly addressed one of the most critical challenges of manufacturing: inefficient production planning. MultiCAPP empowered companies to create and distribute comprehensive production plans across multiple locations, ensuring everyone involved knew exactly how to manufacture every product. The success of MultiCAPP is a testament to CIMx Software’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of manufacturing technology. This remarkable software was a great start but CIMx had even bigger plans for the future of manufacturing.

setting the stage for advanced MES

By 1999, the visionary team at CIMx was ready to push the boundaries even further. We wanted a more robust solution to meet the growing demands of the manufacturing industry. We collaborated with Oracle and utilized key components from their suite to build a powerful client-server version of MultiCAPP, aptly named CS/CAPP. CS/CAPP’s success story unfolded as we implemented it in numerous companies, including several industry giants.

CS/CAPP wasn’t just an upgrade; it was the foundation for a comprehensive suite of tools. We developed CS/TOOL to complement CS/CAPP, offering additional functionalities. Next we introduced a quality control product to ensure quality remained a top priority. Finally, a shop browser facilitated a more efficient client-server connection, further enhancing user experience. The development and deployment of CS/CAPP and its companion tools marked a significant chapter in CIMx Software’s growth. As we thrived through the early 2000s, our sights were set on an even more comprehensive solution.

Interax's impact

2010 ushered in a new era for CIMx with the introduction of Interax, our next-generation MES solution. The name itself, a clever suggestion from one of our team members (“It interacts with everybody on the shop floor”), reflected the system’s core strength: seamless interaction across the manufacturing landscape. Interax marked a significant shift in our technological approach. We made a strategic decision to migrate to a fully open-source architecture, a move which not only ensured greater affordability but also opened doors for future innovation and customization.

Interax introduced a new generation of functionalities. Features like advanced data collection empowered manufacturers with richer insights into their operations. The success of Interax solidified our commitment to user-centric design. We recognized the need for an intuitive system that could empower people with real-time data to make informed decisions. This vision paved the way for the development of our next-generation MES solution, Quantum, which prioritizes user experience and streamlines workflows through an even more modern interface.

introducing: Quantum

2015 marked another milestone for CIMx with the introduction of Quantum, our next-generation MES solution. Chosen by our employees themselves, the name “Quantum” reflected a leap forward in functionality and adaptability. While the term “Quantum computing” has become prominent today, the name back then captured the essence of a system designed for limitless possibilities.

A cornerstone of Quantum’s success is its remarkable adaptability. From wire harnesses to high end bicycles, from furniture manufacturing to record pressing, Quantum has proven its adaptability across a wide range of industries. Unlike industry-specific systems, Quantum was built to adapt to the unique needs of various manufacturing environments. With every new Quantum implementation, we gather valuable insights into the specific needs of each industry, insights which are then incorporated into the core Quantum platform to create new features that benefit all our customers. These continuous enhancements ensure Quantum remains the most powerful, comprehensive MES solution possible.

Quantum leaps into the cloud

In 2023, CIMx Software embraced innovation yet again with the introduction of Quantum Cloud. This came from our understanding that manufacturing success isn’t limited to large companies. Recognizing that not every manufacturer requires a dedicated on-premises server, we’ve adapted Quantum to seamlessly operate within a cloud environment.

 

This wasn’t a simple feat. We remained committed to maintaining feature parity, ensuring the cloud version offers the exact same robust functionality as the on-premises Quantum. This involved hundreds of code modifications and optimizations, all aimed at delivering a seamless user experience regardless of deployment method. Now, whether you prefer an on-premises server or the flexibility of the cloud, Quantum is the solution to empower your discrete manufacturing operations.
