Reduce Manufacturing Cycle Time

Reduce Manufacturing Cycle Time

Problem: A large aerospace company needed to reduce their lengthy product planning and production process in order to satisfy customer requirements. The analysis showed that paper processes were error prone and subject to non-productive wait times between operations. They concluded that a major economic benefit could be achieved through electronic delivery of work instructions and collection of shop floor data.

Solution: The Company installed Interax to solve the problem. They use it for work instruction generation, tool and asset management, creating and managing quality control plans and for web-enabled access and viewing of shop floor operations.

Result: They achieved a manufacturing cycle time reduction of 33%, over 80% reduction in support needed for information flow to and from the shop floor and a major reduction in tooling inventory needed. The annual savings exceed $5 million for this single location. The solution was then deployed to other locations in the company where similar benefits are being produced.

Benefits:

  • Reduced cycle time of 33%
  • Reduced support needed by 80%
  • Reduced scrap and rework
  • Reduced overhead (reassigned over 20 people)
  • Increased product quality
  • Improved record of as-built information
